subway story #1

i was on the train going home one Friday evening and a lady came into the subway car and asked for money. she got half-way through the car and i guess no one had given her anything, or not enough if they had. so she yelled, "Come on people! it's Friday; it's payday! i know you have something!"

i'd never heard anything like it. and it made me smile. a guy next to me who i think was a native New Yorker said that in all the years he's lived here he'd never seen that. only in New York.
